Duties of Engagement and Communications Officer 

For a one-year assignment with the Mainland Nova Scotia Field Unit, which includes the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, Fort Anne National Historic Site, Port-Royal National Historic Site, Kejimkujik National Park and Historic Site, and Sable Island National Park Reserve, Parks Canada is looking for a person to fill the position of Partnering, Engagement and Communications Officer IV (PM-04).

A self-driven, cooperative, well-organized person who can write well and think strategically is what we’re searching for. This person will use public relations and communications tactics and services to spread the word about these national treasures. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, this individual will interact with the general public, partners, and stakeholders to better understand, value, and safeguard these sites of natural and cultural significance. For decision-making, they will offer management and staff strategic and policy assistance.

Work environment

A federal government body called Parks Canada is in charge of safeguarding and showcasing Canada’s exceptional natural and cultural resources through a network of national parks, national marine conservation areas, and national historic sites around the country.

EDUCATION:
  • graduation from an accredited university with a concentration in communications, public relations, journalism, education, business administration, or another subject pertinent to the position, or a credential that combines an acceptable level of education, training, and experience in a field related to the position.

Equivalency of degrees

EXPERIENCE:

  • having writing and editing experience for a variety of communications deliverables, including press releases, communication strategies, information bulletins, backgrounders, media lines, and social media postings;
  • knowledge of handling numerous files under pressure.
