The university was founded in 1877 by George Bryce who had been appointed as the first president of what would become known as Manitoba College (now called University College).
As time went on other colleges were established, such as Brandon College (founded 1890), Red River College (1909), Brandon University (1918), and Université de Saint-Boniface, which opened its doors to students in 1967; however it wasn’t until 1969 when these four independent schools merged together into one institution called “University College.
” This led them down another path towards becoming what we know today as “The University of Manitoba,” which opened its doors again with classes starting up again after being shut down during World War II due to rationing measures implemented by government officials who wanted everyone working towards rebuilding Europe after being attacked twice within five months period not only financially but physically too.”
