We predict that approximately one-third of Knight Hennessy scholars will be Americans over time, with the remaining two-thirds coming from other countries. These figures will fluctuate annually because Stanford strives to accept the best students from everywhere.
Access to financial assistance is constrained for international students at Stanford. International applicants must specify on the entry form if they require assistance. Applicants who are accepted and qualify for assistance will get funding from the institution based on their family’s financial circumstances.
Level and Study Subject

Knight-Hennessy Scholarship Eligibility
- You must possess exceptional mental sharpness, be open-minded and curious about new things, be creative and full of original ideas, be able to make sense of ambiguous situations, and be able to maintain an opposing or diverging point of view.
- You must complete the rest of the application process in addition to submitting your Knight-Hennessy Scholars application, which may include taking any standardized tests required for your graduate degree program (such as the GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, etc.), as well as an English proficiency test if necessary.
- You must be self-driven, ambitious, and risk-taking in the fullest meaning of the word. self-aware, tenacious, and capable of overcoming obstacles. Low ego, inclusivity, appreciation for diversity, and humility are traits of the individual.
- You must have a strong command of English in order to apply to a Stanford program. Typically, graduate programs at Stanford require a TOEFL score of 100iBT or 600PBT. - In addition to the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program, you must first apply to, be accepted into, and enroll in a full-time graduate degree program at Stanford. The DMA, JD, MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MPP, MS, or Ph.D. are just a few examples of graduate programs at Stanford where each Knight-Hennessy Scholar must be a first-time enrollee. No quotas are established by program or discipline.

Awarding scholarships
The following features are made available to Stanford University Scholarship recipients:
- A stipend intended to cover the cost of one round-trip economy ticket to and from Stanford each year.
- A monthly stipend for housing and tuition expenses (such as room and board, books, academic supplies, instructional materials, local transportation, and reasonable personal expenses).
- A fellowship that is specifically utilized to cover the cost of tuition (in accordance with the usual level of attendance for the department) and associated expenses.
- The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program often does not cover costs that your home department at Stanford pays for its students, such as subscriptions or lab equipment.
- Knight-Hennessy Scholars might also look for additional financing to support their academic objectives (e.g. conference travel).
If your degree program is longer than three years, such as an MD or Ph.D. program, or if it is a Stanford dual- or joint-degree program, Stanford’s home department will cover the remaining cost of your education to the extent compatible with its usual funding commitment for that program. The first three years of your graduate studies are the only ones that the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program will pay for.
