Scholarship Prize

JRF Scholars are awarded college scholarships worth up to $35,000 over the course of four years, as well as funding to attend JRF’s yearly four-day “Mentoring and Leadership Conference” in New York City and other events all year long. A four-year curriculum that includes leadership and practical life skills training, foreign travel, career counseling, internship and permanent job placement, and considerable financial support is also provided to Scholars.

Jrf core values for scholarships

Throughout their academic years, JRF Scholars are required to perform community service in order to better their own lives and the lives of the people they help. Jackie Robinson’s life and legacy are reflected in the following basic values, which JRF Scholars are urged to uphold:

DISCIPLINE
Consistently fulfill obligations and make the dedication necessary for success.

INTEGRITY
Always rely on the truth. Accept the truth even if it means putting one’s own interests in danger.

HUMILITY
Accept the fact that we were all created equal. Be quick to praise, deliberate in your criticism, and modest when you succeed.

COMPASSION
increase everyone’s sense of dignity. It is important to demonstrate generosity and empathy toward others.

COURAGE

No matter how challenging or unpopular it may be, try to defend the fundamental principles.

Symposium on Mentoring and Leadership

A significant part of JRF’s comprehensive curriculum is the annual four-day Mentoring and Leadership Conference (MLC), which is conducted in New York City for all JRF Scholars. The MLC takes place in NYC at the same time as the yearly JRF Alumni reunion, providing an excellent opportunity for networking and mentoring between Scholars and alumni.

Every year, JRF Scholars engage in the following activities: (1) career exploration; (2) practical life skills training; (3) leadership development workshops; (4) participation in outings for culture, recreation, and community service; and (5) interaction with JRF staff, sponsors, and alumni as well as members of JRF’s large volunteer corps known as Scholars (SAC).

The MLC concludes in JRF Scholars attending the Foundation’s Annual Robie Awards Dinner, which is customarily held on the first Monday of March. The MLC is a key component of JRF’s year-round mentoring initiatives. Smaller regional gatherings and events take place all year long.
