Scholarship for Sanctuary at Newman University in the UK in 2023

Candidates seeking asylum are encouraged to apply for a Sanctuary Scholarship at Newman University during the academic year 2022–2023, which is already accepting applications.

As part of the Helena Kennedy Foundation’s Article 26 Project, which promotes access to higher education for people who have sought asylum in the UK after fleeing oppression, Newman University is pleased to be one of an expanding number of universities offering a Sanctuary Scholarship grant.

Since 2014, they have given out these scholarships, and everyone of their recipients has successfully completed their degree. Each year, Newman University awards one scholarship to a candidate from a background of forced migration who is ineligible for funding from Student Finance England because of their Home Office status.

A tuition fee waiver is provided up until the point at which you are given status that enables you to access statutory student aid.

The fee waiver does not apply to repeat academic years.

Support for Study and Travel:

The Newman University Sanctuary Scholarship grant provides a £1000 annual scholarship to help with study and travel expenses.

The bursary is awarded in two installments, one for each semester, and is not means-tested. Repeat study years will not be eligible for the bursary payment.

Personal Support:

Each candidate will receive tailored support to help them identify and overcome obstacles to success in their degree program.

The University is unable to provide any financial support for lodging.

Candidates should only apply if they can cover these costs for the entirety of their academic program on their own dime.

At Newman University, eligibility for the Sanctuary Scholarship The candidate must: A person who is seeking asylum or who has been brought to the country against their will, or who is the dependent or partner of such a person; OR a person who has been granted discretionary leave to remain (DLR) or another type of temporary status; AND possess an admissions offer from Newman University, either unconditional or conditional, for a full-time undergraduate study position.

Children or stepchildren must have been younger than 18 on the date the asylum application was submitted.

How to Apply for a Scholarship at Newman University

called Sanctuary Applications are now open for the September 2023 Sanctuary Scholarship grant.

The application form and instructions are available from their website as attachments. You must have applied for admission to Newman University’s 3-year, full-time undergraduate degree program and received an offer of admission (conditional or unconditional) before you may submit an application for the Sanctuary Scholarship grant.

To be considered, your complete application for the Sanctuary Scholarship must be submitted by Wednesday, July 1 at noon.

The University will contact you following preliminary examination to inform you of whether or not your application will move on to the next phase of the selection process.

If your application is accepted for further consideration, you will be invited to an interview to verify the data you provided in your application.

Within five working days of your interview, you will be notified if you have been selected to receive the Scholarship award.

Application Closing Date The scholarship application form must be submitted before July 1, 2023.
