As a part of the Governance for Development in Africa Initiative, two PhDs are provided to African nationals that are funded by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation.

The Centre of African Studies at SOAS, University of London, is happy to announce the extension of the Governance for Development in Africa Initiative, funded by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, for one more three years.

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation has generously provided SOAS with two PhD scholarships every year for African students enterprise a full‐time PhD and Masters programme within the area of Governance for Development in Africa.

Value of Scholarship
- PhD: The scholarship is on a part‐present kind and it offers for charges for 3 years. Nevertheless, lodging and living cost are coated for the first year only.
- The scholarship may also cover in total 2 return flights : one throughout the first year, and one for the viva (plus one week’s accommodation around the viva).
- In year 2 and year 3, the profitable candidate may also obtain an annual stipend of £5,000.
- We also cover visa cost, supplied receipts are submitted to the Centre of African Studies office.
- We expect students to be on fieldwork during the second year, and to jot down the thesis within the third year of their country of origin.
Eligibility

Selection Criteria: Candidates shall be assessed on academic merit by a panel consisting of SOAS academic members. The evaluation of your application shall be primarily based on the information in your scholarship application.
