Young Indians wishing to immigrate to the UK can take a new path. As part of the new agreement between the two countries, the UK government has signed a non-binding agreement with India called the UK-India Young Professionals Scheme. India is the first country whose citizens need a UK visa to formally enter into such an agreement.
The UK-India Young Professionals Scheme allows up to 3,000 young professionally qualified Indians to live and work in the UK for up to two years. In return, India will welcome her 3,000 British citizens to do the same in India. It aims to enrich the economies of both countries and promote cultural exchanges.

Currently, Indians wishing to live and work in the UK can apply for one of the following visas:
- Visa for medical and nursing care workers
- Skilled worker visa
- worker visa for scale up
- Senior or Specialist Worker Visa (Global Business Mobility)
- International sports visa
- Religious Minister Visa (T2)
UK-India Young Professionals Scheme – Who is eligible?
Applicants must meet certain criteria to be eligible for the program. these are:
- You must be between the ages of 18 and 30
- You must meet the minimum English language requirements and be able to express yourself in English.
- Must have a relevant diploma or degree equivalent to at least three years of higher education.
- Job offers from YK employers may be beneficial
Admission requirements have not yet been finalized and are subject to change.
UK-India Young Professionals Scheme – How are candidates selected?
The details of the selection process have not yet been finalized. Experts see the program as over-subscribed as the majority of Indian candidates meet the eligibility criteria. There are also concerns that large tech companies could dominate the category due to the ease of hiring Indian talent.
In most cases, the selection is in the form of a lottery as part of the youth mobile visa program in some countries.
