The Edinburgh Law School and Ewen Cameron Scholarships are fully funded scholarships to students who would like to study their PhD in Scotland.

Three full PhD scholarships are offered by Edinburgh Law School to eligible students. One of these is provided through a generous legacy from alumnus Ewen Cameron in his name.

These scholarships would pay tuition fees and a yearly stipend  with UKRI rates (around £15,700 per annum). The stipend would be paid in equal month by month instalments for a maximum of 3 years, subject to satisfactory progress.

Awards will be paid pro-rata for part-time candidates.

Eligibility for Edinburgh Law School and Ewen Cameron Scholarships

Candidates for these scholarships must be seeking to start their 1st year of full time or part time PhD study in Edinburgh Law School within the year 2022/23 (September 2022 or January 2023 entry).

UK students and international students are all eligible to apply. Please note that not all international students eligible for part-time study.

To be considered for any these scholarships, you must first meet the our standard minimum entry needed requirements.

The candidates that are successful normally fit these requirements, having obtained the bet classification in at least one of their degrees, and provide a good research proposal which has a close fit with study within the School.

When making decisions, the following will be done:

  • Consider the applicant’s academic achievements, research proposal, research potential, and the degree of support provided by references.
  • Not take into account factors such as financial status and nationality.

Applicants who are Successful would be expected to accept the offer when the results of the application process have been announced. Candidates who already got an offer of financial sponsorship from somewhere else would not be eligible.

Applications are all welcome across the large range of legal and law-related subjects.

Please you should note that one of these scholarships would be ring-fenced under our Athena Swan action plan to support a project that will deal with questions of diversity, equality or social justice.
